The article discusses the use of school assignments about social justice as a method of teaching writing to adolescents. It focuses on the authors' experience of using social justice education to emphasize multicultural education and increase students articulation and criticism skills. The authors argue that high school teachers need real-time examples of social justice education in order to make similar programs work in their own classrooms. They explore the use of narrative, poetry, and exposition to engage students in social justice issues and critical thinking.
